"My
belief is that the high purpose of painting is to praise
the beauty that surrounds us. It is essential for me to
be able to depict the joy and inspiration derived from
all that is beautiful. I want my work to reflect a time and place, a feeling of emotion and a sense of mood. "
--DIANA K.
GIBSON
"Recreating
life on canvas is a lifelong pursuit of study and
learning. Each day provides a new beginning and
new experiences."

William G. Brown
Originally
from the Bronx, New York, and raised in Park
Ridge, New Jersey, William G. Brown, at a young
age, was provided with inspiration for art by
watching his father draw and paint. Despite this
young learning, he didn't begin to seriously
study art until his late twenties. Brown began
to study oil painting at the Ridgewood Art
Institute (RAI). While there, he learned the
importance of painting directly from life form
his instructor John Phillip Osborne.
Much of
William G. Brown's work consists of Plein Air
painting, with many of his pieces started on
location. His subtle use of tone and values has
been received with laudable commendations from
his fellow painters and collectors.
Brown's continuous independent study of the
landscape has taken him throughout North America
and Europe. He is currently represented by several galleries in the New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania region.
William is the co-founder of the Plein Air Painters of the New Jersey Highlands. He is a
life member of the Ridgewood Art Institute, is
also on the Board of Directors, and teaches oil painting classes at the Ridgewood Art Institute. Awards received
include the Grumbacher Gold Medal and Honorable
Mention from Hudson Valley Art Association.
